01

Overview

Kërguitek is a platform I founded for learning to code in French, one video at a time. I lead it from the idea to the implementation, with Next.js as the technical base.

Its academy offers short, practical video lessons covering web development, programming languages, databases and developer tools. Access is free and requires no sign-up.

Around the academy, the same site hosts guides to Senegalese administrative procedures, a blog, a space for developers and a services offer for businesses.

02

Problem

Kërguitek is aimed at French-speaking learners who want to start programming without committing to long courses, often with a phone as their main device.

Its second concern is local: administrative procedures and public services in Senegal that cost people time because the practical information — documents, real costs, delays, where to go — is hard to find.

03

Solution

The Academy breaks each course into chapters and very short video capsules, one notion per video. Courses cover front-end, back-end and data, and everyday developer tools, with recommended learning paths for each track.

Démarches publishes plain-language guides to administrative procedures in Senegal: documents to provide, costs in CFA francs, observed delays and a last-verified date on every guide.

A services offer complements the content for businesses and project owners: websites and applications, graphic design, online visibility and tailored training.

My Role

Founder. I am responsible for the product direction and for building it.

05

Technology

  • Next.js
  • React
  • Node.js
  • Nodemailer
  • Mailchimp
  • Vercel

Next.js applied to entrepreneurship and a digital product.

06

Product Decisions

  • Free access with no sign-up, so nothing stands between a learner and the first lesson.
  • One notion per video, around twenty seconds each, designed to be watched on a phone.
  • Each course can be followed on its own; suggested paths give an order for those who want one.
  • Progress is tracked automatically and a learner resumes where they stopped.
  • Every administrative guide shows when it was last verified, and readers can report a change.
  • New areas open in stages rather than all at once.

07

Architecture

  1. User

    Browser

  2. Next.js

    App Router, Server Components

  3. Vercel

    Hosting, prerendered pages

The site is a Next.js App Router application built on React Server Components. Its pages are prerendered and served from Vercel.

Two integrations handle outbound communication: Nodemailer for the contact form and Mailchimp for the newsletter.

Current Status

As observed on the live site in October 2026:

  • The Academy is live with a catalogue of video courses; an artificial intelligence course is announced.
  • Démarches is live with its first guides.
  • The community space, where people propose and vote on procedures to digitalise, is announced as coming soon.
  • The Lab for Senegalese developers is opening in stages, starting with a directory of local APIs.
  • The services offer and the blog are online.

Lessons Learned

  • A very short format forces each video to isolate a single notion; it is a design constraint before it is an editing choice.
  • Removing sign-up removes the main obstacle to the first lesson.
  • Opening areas in stages makes it possible to publish what is ready without waiting for the rest.
